Erik Nuding is Film Director, Cinematographer and teacher who works internationally through cross cultural collaborations. Between Madagascar, the US, Ireland, and England, he brings together slow cinema, ethnographic and hybrid approaches, often as a means to explore human  – nature relations.

Erik’s debut short, An Ornithologist’s Daughter, screened at Visions Du Reel, Docs Ireland and Fid Marseille among others.

Erik’s first feature film, With Their Backs To The Sky, immerses into the entangled lives of bat catchers, scientists and bats in Madagascar. Currently in post production, Backs is supported by Sundance, Sandbox films, Sheffield Doc Fest and Buffett Institute for Climate Crisis and Media. Other works have been supported by the Art Council Ireland and the British Council

Erik earned an MFA from Northwestern University (US) under J.P. Sniadecki, and a BA at the University of California, Berkeley under Nico Pereda.

Erik is available as a collaborator on projects that are looking to challenge the status quo and create their own language. He cried when Béla Tarr passed away (seriously) and can be found jumping in the nearest body of water he can find.
